The number 10 for these two seasons was worn by The Birch, but also Joe Waters for a few games. The Birch was a good player for us in the 70's, but he is also very well thought of completing his commercial duties at the club currently. Great with the fans, both at half time, but also in the corporate suites at The Walkers.
We wore red for games like QPR and Birmingham, however I have not yet found pictures of us wearing these actual shirts. I have pictures of wearing red shirts in the years before and after this design, but so far not had any luck in finding pictures of these actual shirts in play. I thought I would take it to The Birch and ask if he remembers wearing it. His response was that it was a rare shirt worn in Gary Linekers days. This just goes to show that the mind can play tricks and even if you get information from the best sources, it can be wrong. This design was worn 2-3 years before Lineker made his debut.
